About Eric Berkman MD

Dr. Berkman’s patient philosophy is to restore his patient’s freedom of movement and relieve the pain from diseased or degenerated joints. His aim is to get to know his patients and work with them to solve their problems. He offers comprehensive treatment and the utmost care to patients 13 years and older.

Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Berkman has been in practice since 1996. He specializes in treating various orthopedic conditions of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. His clinical interests include sports injuries and arthritis of the shoulder and knee. His training has allowed him to specialize in cutting edge treatments of the knee and shoulder. Most treatments are conservative and non-surgical. If conservative treatment fails, he will give personalized surgical care to each patient.

Dr. Eric F. Berkman earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed his internship in 1991 and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport in 1995 where he was named the outstanding resident of the year. He then completed his spine and trauma fellowship in Basel, Switzerland in 1995 working with Dr E. Morscher and Dr. Gachter.

The author of a number of medical articles, Dr. Berkman was voted by his peers as one of Houston’s Top Docs for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 by H- Texas Magazine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Society, Houston Orthopaedic Society, Texas Medical Association and Harris County Medical Association. He currently serves as an associate professor of orthopedics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston.

Dr. Berkman and his wife have two children. He enjoys playing golf, hunting and fishing in his free time.

Dr Eric F Berkman has run a large charity golf tournament for 18 years and fishing tournament for 10 years to raise money for Good Samaritan Foundation (nursing scholarships), Patriot Paws (service dogs for PTSD veterans), Fort Bend Women’s Shelter, Ronald McDonald House, Wounded Warriors Weekend-Port O’Connor, and served with Faith in Practice in Antigua, Guatemala.
